Sunday Worship

We have a variety of styles of worship, at different times at across the Parish aimed to suit everyone. All four of our churches normally offer a service at some time on a Sunday making a service accessible to as many as possible across the town. The times, locations and styles are given below:

8.00am, St Augustine's - Holy Eucharist (said)

A quiet, reflective start to the day and week; a shorter, 'said' service, simple in style, with a minimum of ceremony except that on particular occasions, with the addition of vestments and use of robed servers, there is opportunity to mark particular festivals and holy days; the Book of Common Prayer is used once a month.

9.30am, St Peter's

A specially 'family-friendly' service, informal and simple, with a greater use of songs, choruses and instrumental music in keeping with the more 'evangelical' Anglican tradition; creating a worshipful atmosphere by singing songs before the service starts.

1st & 3rd Sundays (Morning Worship)

Particular attention is given to teaching for both adults and children with extended time for teaching in their own groups, so the children go to a Sunday Club activity whilst adults explore the word by listening to a talk or joining in discussion.

2nd, 4th (&5th) Sundays (All-Age Eucharist)

An inclusive Eucharistic community where children and adults worship and learn together.

10.30am, St Andrew's - Sung Eucharist

A more traditional sung Eucharist, but including a mix of older and newer music, with the service sung to a congregational setting; a greater degree of formality and ceremony, including highlighting the gospel, the use of priestly vestments, a procession of robed choir and servers, together with a deacon to assist the priest, all in keeping with the more 'catholic' Anglican tradition.

5.00pm, St Nicholas' - Evening Worship

A mix of Eucharistic and non-Eucharistic worship; the overall style is informal

2nd Sunday

- Prayer & Praise - freer worship
