The Wedding rehearsal
Walking through the Wedding
The rehearsal gives us a chance to walk through the service with you in church. The main purpose of it is to ensure you have any final questions answered, and that when you reach your wedding day, you will be familiar with what you are doing, You are not expected to learn any lines. On the day, everything you need to do will be made clear just before you do it.
When does it happen?
The rehearsal normally takes place in the week before the wedding.
Who should be there?
The following people are normally needed at the rehearsal:
- The bride and groom
- The best man and the bridesmaids (and any page boys)
- The person accompanying the bride into church
It is helpful if the following people also attend:
- The witnesses (if they are not already included above)
- The ushers
- The photographer, if they are a friend rather than a professional.
- The parents of the bride and groom
The witnesses
You are required to have two adult witnesses to your wedding who must also sign the wedding registers. Please be clear who your witnesses are by the rehearsal. The most common choices for witnesses include:
- The best man and chief bridesmaid
- Or both fathers
- Or both mothers
The person accompanying the bride into church
This has traditionally been the bride's father. However, there are other possible arrangements that many couple's make today, and there is no essential requirement for the bride to be accompanied by her father. This is one of the questions that can be discussed when you meet the priest taking your wedding.
