It’s amazing how the response of people, and the media in particular, seems to change so quickly. It’s only a few weeks ago that the England rugby team was seen as hopeless and not fit to grace the same stage as the big rugby nations of the southern hemisphere. A couple of results later and everyone (!) is euphoric about the prospect of the team retaining the trophy they won in 2003.
In many ways it is a pattern we see in other areas of life. Short term results are much more important than the long haul. Business investment in research and development is sacrificed for the quick return. Relationships are broken because long term commitments are too much of a burden.
In one area though the long game is what matters. The nature of God rests on the long term fact of eternity, and a relationship which can last for ever. God never gives up on us no matter how many times we might drop the ball.
