News Release - A new Minister for Droitwich |
On Sunday 5th July, Anglicans from around Droitwich Spa welcomed a new minister at their Sunday Worship. David Morris, who lives with his family in the Primsland area of Droitwich, was ordained deacon by the Bishop of Worcester on Saturday 4th July in Worcester Cathedral. He carried out his new ministry as a deacon – an assistant minister – for the first time at the Sunday morning Eucharist in St Andrew’s Church in the centre of Droitwich Spa on the following day. David, who has lived in Droitwich for many years, is married to Kerry and their children Hannah and Abigail attend school locally. He will continue his working life as a logistics manager, and serve as an ordained minister in a voluntary capacity, with a particular focus on the role of the church in the workplace. In what is left of his spare time he is an enthusiastic cyclist and bike-builder.
Team leader Canon Sheila Banyard said, “We are delighted to welcome David as a member of the clergy team in the parish. I know he has great deal to offer the church and the community, especially in helping us make creative connections between the Christian faith and our daily life and work. We all wish him well and look forward to working with him in his new role.” Through the three years David has been in evening class training at the Queen’s Foundation Birmingham, a group of church members has been supporting him. Paula Honniball, a member of the group said: “The ordination was a proud and emotional time for us all. We are so proud of David’s achievement. And, of course, credit also goes to Kerry, Hannah and Abigail for their forbearance and patience.” Another member, Gordon Adkins said, “My own relationship with God has been greatly enhanced through this process”.
